Garage Defenders! As seen on the BBC
One of the top selling products in our shop is the garage defender. The garage defender is a T-Bar that is secured to the ground in front of your garage door with expandable security bolts and acts as a barrier to stop people prizing open the up and over door. The garage defender is also secured with an independant conealed armoured padlock. As long as you have a good solid base at the foot of your garage door then this product will be perfect for protecting your garage. One of the best ways to deter a burglar is to create a visual deterrent. The majority of burglars are opportunists looking for an easy ride.
If an intruder is looking at a row of five houses, four of which have alarm bell boxes, they will usually go for the one house that doesn't have one because they will make the assumption that it is not alarmed, and therefore an easy target.

Towards the end of 2011 we unfortunately saw a steady increase in the amount of burglaries in our local area.
The thieves are usually after 3 main things.
1) Car Keys
2) Gold / Jewellery
3) Plasma TVs / Laptops etc
With regards to the car keys, it is never advisable to leave keys anywhere on site, especially in the hallway as burglars can use contraptions to hook them through the letterbox. It's always best to lock your keys away.
Since the introduction of cash for gold, thieves are targeting people's gold and jewellery and posting them off for cash bundles. Since they no longer have to trade it in face to face and because the price of metal is so high it is a good idea to think about a security solution. We have a decent selection of safes, large and small, and offer a fitting service by our locksmith who has worked with us for over 20 years and is a member of the Master Locksmith Association (MLA)
Finally, with regards to TVs and Laptops, my first advice is to back up your photos on your computer! You can pick up fairly small external hard drives these days from most electrical / computer stores. Back up you photos and store them in a safe place. If you haven't already got one, you should consider having an Intruder Alarm fitted.
